![]() The Tear of Grief (official title: To the Struggle Against World Terrorism), by Georgian/Russian sculptor Zurab Tseretili, erected amid the dry docks and truck yards of Bayonne, directly across the Hudson River from the former site of the World Trade Center. It consists of a 106 foot bronze rectangle, split with a fissure containing a 40 foot polished titanium tear drop. It is described as a “gift from the people of Russia,” representing their tears grief over the September 11, 2001 attacks. The monument contains the names of all of the victims of that day, as well as portraits of George W. Bush and Vladimir Putin staring into each others’ souls. The former received Russian blessing to base bombers in former Soviet republics like Uzbekistan for use against Taliban and al Qaeda forces in Afghanistan, the latter received a green light to send the Russian military against Chechen rebels.
